George M. Kirst, age 88 years, of Kewaskum found peace on May 23, 2018.
George was born on November 25, 1929 to Matthew and Veronica Kirst (Gasper). On April 19, 1952 he was united in marriage to Rita M. Schommer in Port Washington.
George honorably served in the Army from 1948 – 1952, which included active duty in Korea. For his service, he was awarded a Combat Infantry Badge and two Purple Hearts. George enjoyed numerous trips to Vegas and loved fishing and hiking. He was a loving husband and father.
Those George leaves behind to cherish his memory include his wife, Rita of 66 years; 3 children, Thomas (Kat) Kirst of Richwood, TX, Richard (Son) Kirst of Tacoma, WA, and Linda (Rick) Johnson of Sparta; 7 grandchildren, Randy, Eric and Katie Johnson, James and Victoria Kirst, Kerry and Kaley LaRose; and great-grandson, Zachary. He is further survived by sister, Helen Sanem; brother, Robert (Mary Jane) Kirst; sister-in-law, Theresa Kirst; and other relatives and friends.
In addition to his parents, George was preceded in death by brothers, Joe and Eugene Kirst; sister, Marie Fay; brothers-in-law, Leroy Sanem and Vernon Fay; and sister-in-law, Hazel Kirst.
Private, family services to be held at a later date. Memorials to the American Heart Association preferred.
George’s family extends their heartfelt appreciation to the staff in the Intensive Care Unit at St. Joseph’s Hospital, including Dr. Smale and nurses Jamie and Vickie for the care they provided.
