Gerald Coghlan

Gerald D. Coghlan, age 68, of West Bend, passed away on Friday August 24, 2012 at the Aurora Medical Center in Hartford.

He was born in Milwaukee on March 25, 1944 to the late Thomas and Ruth (nee Schmid) Coghlan. Jerry graduated from Washington High School in the class of '62 and then attended the University of Wisconsin Madison graduating in 1964 with a Degree in Agricultural Life Science.

On April 10, 1965 Jerry was united in marriage to Beverly Trotter in Milwaukee. Together they resided in Milwaukee and Brookfield until moving to Little Cedar Lake and West Bend in 1987.

Jerry loved his family and in addition to being husband, father and grandfather, he was their best friend. Those who knew him appreciated his unique humor, zest for life, warm smile and genuine character. He lived his life to the fullest! His love of life affected everyone he met and knew.

Jerry worked as a stockbroker and was the Milwaukee branch manager for Kidder Peabody, which later became Paine Webber. He retired in 1997.

Jerry was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He was a former Little League Baseball coach and Boy Scout master. Before his stroke he enjoyed the following hobbies: his job, skiing, farming, boating, traveling, playing tennis at Pleasant Valley Tennis Club, and his family.

He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Beverly; two children, Brian Coghlan of Dallas, TX, and Shelley(Mark Robbins) Coghlan - Hebert of West Bend; two grandchildren, Meghan (Jesse Hayes) Neimon of West Allis, and Branden (Sierra Struck) Hebert of West Bend; son-in-law, Jeffery Hebert of West Bend; a brother, Keith (Mary) Franz of Slinger; four sisters-in-law, Barbara Coghlan of Little Chute, Betty (Dean) Lewis of Palm Springs, CA, Eleanor (Wilson) Edwards of Rancho Mirage, CA, and Marie Baumgart of Wauwatosa; three brothers-in-law, Wilbur Schneider of Ixonia, Donald (Mary Ann) Trottier of Vero Beach, Florida, and Frank (Judy) Trotter of Perry, MI; other relatives and many friends.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Carol Schneider; and a brother, Thomas Coghlan.

Funeral services in remembrance of Jerry will be held on Wednesday August 29th at 7:00 pm at the Myrhum ~ Patten Funeral Home, 1315 W. Washington St. West Bend. Bishop Steven Redd will officiate. Visitation will be Wednesday at the funeral home from 5:00 pm until the time of service. Burial will be in Washington County Memorial Park, West Bend.
