Gerhard C. Firme

Gerhard C. Firme, 92, a lifelong resident of Batavia, passed away on Saturday, May 14, 2011, at Beechwood Rest Home in Beechwood.


He was born on July 24, 1918, in Batavia, the son of the late William and Emma (Garbisch) Firme. William owned and operated a repair shop in Batavia where he and his sons did wagon wheel repair and other woodworking jobs.


Gerhard proudly served his country in the U. S. Army during World War II. He was employed by Mercury Marine in Fond du Lac for 26 years. Gerhard was a member of St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church in Batavia and Triangle B American Legion Post 193.


Those Gerhard leaves behind to cherish his memory include his cousins, Perry Etta of Kewaskum and DuAne Dogs of West Bend, other cousins, relatives and friends.


In addition to his parents, Gerhard was preceded in death by three brothers and a sister.


Funeral services for Gerhard were held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 19, 2011, at St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church, N1510 Highway 28 in Batavia. Rev. Kurt Ziemann officiated and burial, with military honor rites, followed in Boltonville Union Cemetery in Boltonville.


Relatives and friends called on Thursday at the church from noon until the time of services.


Memorials to St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church or Triangle B American Legion Post 193 are appreciated.


The Miller Funeral Home in Kewaskum was entrusted with Gerhard’s arrangements.
