Gladys Martin

Gladys M. Martin, (nee Ploeckelmann), age 85, of West Bend, formerly of Menomonee Falls, passed away Sunday October 17, 2010 at her residence.

She was born on March 25, 1925 in Green Valley to the late Fred and Esther (nee Bauch) Ploeckelmann. Gladys attended Girl's Technical High School in Milwaukee and graduated in the class of 1943. She worked for Globe Union making parts for airplanes during World War II. She went on to work as the assistant to the Manager of Snow White Garments and retired from S & J Sales at the age of 62.

Gladys met her husband, Anton Martin, who was a friend of her sister's boyfriend during the war. They were united in marriage on June 25, 1949. Tony preceded her in death on February 16, 1993. At that time, Gladys moved to West Bend to live with her children.

She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church where she helped with bulletins and setting up communion. Gladys enjoyed bowling. She coached junior bowling and ran a junior bowling league. She was the Secretary/Treasurer of her bowling league and the Treasurer of the Jim Beam Bottle Club. She also enjoyed playing golf and had a hole in one at Broadlands Golf Club.

She is survived by three children, Suzanne (Richard) Seidemann of Sheboygan, Anton K. (Kathy) Martin of West Bend and Joanne (John) Flegiel of West Bend; eight grandchildren, Kimberley Seidemann, Richard (Ruth) Seidemann, Robert (Tammy) Seidemann, Kristy (Randall) Cooley, Daniel (Katie) Martin, Timothy Martin, Christopher Flegiel and Jennifer Flegiel; seven great-grandchildren, Katherine Seidemann, Stephen Seidemann, Kaleb Cooley, Oscar Martin, Devon Villareal, Miranda Lucatero and Marisol Lucatero; two brothers, Glenn (Jean) Ploeckelmann and Roger (Carole) Ploeckelmann; three sisters-in-law; Helen Ploeckelmann, Shirley Ploeckelmann and Gladys (David) Shelly; two brothers-in-law; Rudy Martin and George Martin; other relatives and friends.

Gladys was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Tony; sisters, Alice Krieger and Beatrice Torbeck; brothers, Kenneth Ploeckelmann and Floyd Ploeckelmann; and parents-in-law, Anton and Viola Martin.

A memorial service in remembrance of Gladys will be held on Wednesday, October 20th at 6:00 pm at Trinity Lutheran Church, 140 N. 7th Avenue, West Bend. Rev. David Schoob will officiate. Visitation will be held at the church on Wednesday from 5:00 pm until the time of the service.
