Gladys H. Pirsig

June 10, 1911 — November 18, 2004

Gladys H. Pirsig, nee Diels, 93, of West Bend, died on Thursday, November 18, 2004.

She was born on June 10, 1911 in Hartford to the late Arthur and Katherine (nee Techtmann) Diels. Growing up she attended Rusco grade school and later St. John's Lutheran School. She graduated from West Bend High School.

She was united in marriage to Herbert C. Laleike on December 25, 1937 in Shawano. He preceded her in death on May 19, 1973.

She was employed as a CNA at the Samaritan Health Center and was a member of the Samaritan Auxiliary. Gladys was also a member of a Homemakers Club and in her spare time she enjoyed traveling and gardening. She was very much a people person and was always willing to help various individuals and groups. She was an official weather observer for Washington County for 50 years and loved every bit of it. Her faith brought her to be a long-time member of Trinity Lutheran Church in West Bend where she served as President for the Trinity Women of the ELCA.

She is survived by two daughters, Joan (Guy) Breger and Jewell Zielieke; four grandchildren, Bret (Tina) Grover, Jason (Beatriz) Grover, Jonathan (Jill) Zielieke, and James Zielieke; eight great-grandchildren, Nicolas, Alexandra, and Seth Grover, Cody, Clayton, Nathan, Jacob, and Logan Zielieke; other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her two brothers, LeRoy Diels and Floyd (Marjorie) Diels Sr.; a sister, Beatrice (Marvin) Juech; and a son-in-law, Jerry Zielieke.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, November 21, 2004 at 5:00 pm at Trinity Lutheran Church in West Bend with Rev. David Schoob officiating. Visitation will be at the church on Sunday from 2:00 pm until the time of service. Burial will take place on Monday at 1:00 pm in Washington County Memorial Park in West Bend.

The family would like to express a special thank you to the staff of Horizon Hospice, especially Warren Williams, for the comforting care that they gave Gladys.
