Gladys C. Ramel (nee Tackes), 88, of Kewaskum, passed away at her daughter’s home in the town of Fredonia on Sunday, April 5, 2009.
She was born on February 21, 1921, in the town of Belgium, the daughter of the late Robert and Helen (Szuminski) Tackes and was baptized at St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Dacada. On June 21, 1939, she was united in marriage to Herbert Ramel. Over the years, Gladys and Herbert enjoyed traveling and visited all fifty states and some foreign countries. Her husband preceded her in death on August 7, 2001.
Gladys was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Kewaskum and the Christian Women. She was very involved with 4-H, serving as a project leader for many years and was very active in the Country Cousins Homemakers. Gladys was also a member of the Luxembourg Society. She enjoyed a good game of sheepshead, crocheting, knitting and researching genealogy. Gladys wrote a book about the history of the family to be passed on to future generations. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include her daughter, Diann (Donald) Thomas of Random Lake; four grandchildren, Tracy Thomas (fiancé, Brian Johnston), Tammy Thomas, Todd (Michelle) Thomas and Terry Thomas (fiancé, Odis Polk); nine great-grandchildren, Brittney and Logan Johnston, Aaliyah, Dylan, Ashley, Steven, Jessica, Trey and Travis Thomas; a brother, Willard (Bertha) Tackes of Newburg; three sisters, Adeline Flasch of Wallace Lake, Darleen Rochwite of Lake Bernice and Darceal Jordan of Boltonville; two sisters-in-law, Gladys Tackes of Kewaskum and Christa Tackes of Wallace Lake, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
In addition to her husband and parents, Gladys was preceded in death by a sister, Virginia (Philip) Schneider and an infant sister, Joyce; four brothers, Marvin, Allen, Orvile and Dalvine Tackes and three brothers-in-law, Bill Flasch, Junior Rochwite and Henry Jordan.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Gladys was held at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, April 13, 2009, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 331 Main Street in Kewaskum, preceded by a prayer service at 6:30 p.m. at the Miller Funeral Home in Kewaskum. Father Elroy Pesch O.F.M. Cap. officiated and burial was at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday in St. Nicholas Catholic Church Cemetery in Dacada.
Relatives and friends called at the funeral home on Monday from 4:00 p.m. until the time of the prayer service at 6:30 p.m.
