Gloria C. Mackrie of West Bend, died Monday, July 19, 2010 at the age of 84.
She was born in Milwaukee on April 20, 1926 to the Gus and Esther Mackrie. After graduating from high school she earned Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees in education and guidance at UW-Madison and later a Master of Arts degree in history at UW-Milwaukee. She worked in Michigan, Illinois and Texas before she came to West Bend as a U.S. History teacher in 1958. She developed several courses involved with law, the latest was "Law and You". While at the high school she was the sponsor of a "Save a Child" club that for many years supported as many as four children a year overseas.
Among other volunteer efforts, she was a docent at the Washington County Historical Society and Museum for many years. She was an enthusiastic expert on Washington County history and was always willing to share her expertise with visitors. She loved to travel and went regularly to Europe and Greece.
