Gregor A. Nigh, age 82, of Kewaskum, passed away on Friday, May 26, 2006 at Kathy Hospice in the town of Polk.
He was born on August 10, 1923 in the town of Auburn, the son of the late Elmer and Evaline (Schmidt) Nigh, and on February 26, 1946, he was united in marriage to Anna Schoofs at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Kewaskum.
Gregor proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II and was very involved in his community. He was the owner and operator of Kewaskum Frozen Foods from 1946-1979. He was a 20-year member of the Wisconsin Association of Meat Processors serving on the board and six years as president. He served as a Kewaskum village trustee for eight years and was a member of the Robert G. Romaine American Legion Post 384 Kewaskum and Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Kewaskum. In 2002, he was recognized as Washington County’s most admired senior citizen for his contributions to his community. He will be deeply missed by his wife, his family and by all who knew him.
Survivors include his loving wife of 60 years, Anna; two children, Gregor E. (Leslie) Nigh of Sun Prairie and Patricia (Gerald) Geidel of the town of Auburn; five brothers, David (Barbara) Nigh of St. Cloud, Florida, Vincent “Babe” (Elvira) Nigh of Kewaskum, Alban “Mousie” (Dorothy) Nigh and Jerome (Beverly) Nigh both of the town of Auburn and Leo (Esther) Nigh of Plymouth; four sisters, Margaret Blanke of Plymouth, Marion (Jerry) Darmody of Allenton, Agnes (Virgil) Bird and Barbara (Dale) Timmler both of West Bend; eight grandchildren, Robert (Kim) Beisbier, Rene (Bill) Brooks, Robin Ader, Douglas (Katie) Geidel, Christopher (Christina) Geidel, Jeremy (Joanne) Geidel, David Nigh and Rebecca Nigh; 11 great-grandchildren, Jason and Lauren Ader, William, Timothy and Matthew Brooks, Zachary, Madeline, Eli and Ella Geidel, Allison and Joseph Beisbier; a sister-in-law, Laura Nigh of West Bend, other relatives and many friends.
Gregor was preceded in death by two daughters, Susann Beisbier and Mary Ellen Behring; two infant grandchildren, James and Tricia Behring; a great-grandson, Justin Beisbier; a brother, Lawrence Nigh; a brother-in-law, Willard Blanke and an infant sister.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 30, 2006 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 331 Main Street, Kewaskum. Father Edwin Kornath and Father Mark Jones concelebrated and military rites were performed following Mass.
Cremation has taken place. Burial of the cremains was in Holy Trinity Catholic Church Cemetery.
Relatives and friends called on Tuesday at the church from 2:30 p.m. until the time of services.
