Gustav Clark Werner, 92, of West Bend, and formerly of Kewaskum, passed away on Sunday, January 22, 2012, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in the town of Polk.
He was born on April 12, 1919, in Milwaukee, the son of the late Emil and Henrietta (Meisner) Werner, and on June 24, 1950, he was united in marriage to Dolores (Raddemann) Cooke at St. John’s Lutheran Church in West Bend.
Gustav will be remembered as one of the survivors of Pearl Harbor while serving his country in the U.S. Army Air Corps. He was employed by Regal Ware Inc. in Kewaskum as a tool and die worker and was a member of the Regal Ware 25-Year Club. He was a member of St. Lucas Evangelical Lutheran Church in Kewaskum and a member of the Robert G. Romaine American Legion Post 384 Kewaskum.
Those Gustav leaves behind to cherish his memory include his wife of 61 years, Dolores; a son, Richard (Kay) Cooke of Spring Grove, Illinois; a daughter, Susan (Russ) Gavin of Slinger; a sister-in-law, Erna Werner of Tucson, Arizona; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, other relatives and friends.
In addition to his parents, Gustav was preceded in death by two brothers, Walter and William “Bill” Werner; a grandson, Timothy Cooke, and a sister, Lillian (Arthur) Buss.
Funeral services for Gustav Werner were held at noon on Wednesday, January 25, 2012, at St. Lucas Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1417 Parkview Drive in Kewaskum. Rev. Timothy Henning officiated and military honors performed by members of the Robert G. Romaine American Legion Post 384 Kewaskum, followed the service. Burial was in Washington County Memorial Park in West Bend.
Relatives and friends called at the church on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to St. Lucas Lutheran Church are appreciated.
