Harold J. Lackas, 83, of Theresa, passed away on Wednesday, April 18, 2012, at Hope Health and Rehabilitation Center in Lomira, with his family at his side.
He was born at home on November 21, 1928, in Theresa, the son of the late William and Adela (Wolf) Lackas, and on August 25, 1956, he was united in marriage to Bernice Schraufnagel at St. Matthew’s Catholic Church in Neosho. Bernice preceded Harold in death on December 22, 1996.
Harold farmed in Theresa for many years. He worked at Chrysler in Beaver Dam, helped out on Jack Burn’s farm and cut lawn for the village of Theresa. Harold was a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters, Holy Name Society and St. Theresa Catholic Church in Theresa, where he served as an usher and lector.
Harold lived a very long life. He had Type I diabetes since the age of 12. Doctors told him he would not live very long. Harold out lived them and many others. He exercised, ate right and took very good care of himself. He will be missed by his family and by all who knew him.
Those Harold leaves behind to cherish his memory include seven children, Leo (Judy) Lackas of Beaver Dam, Margaret (Alex) Jorasz Jr. of Wilson, Michigan, Ralph (Mary) Lackas of Fond du Lac, Raymond (Joan) Lackas of Campbellsport, Karen (Tom) White of Theresa, Vincent (Patty) Lackas of Waukesha and Carl (Loretta) Lackas of Fond du Lac; a brother, Donald (Rose) Lackas of Campbellsport; two sisters, Mildred Theisen and Eileen Petri both of Kewaskum; two sisters-in-law, Rita Lackas of Theresa and Marie Schraufnagel of Hartford, many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, other relatives and many friends.
In addition to his wife and parents, Harold was preceded in death by a grandson, Scott Lackas; two brothers, Ruben (Frances) and Eugene Lackas; two brothers-in-law, Albert Theisen and Bruce Petri and other in-laws.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Harold was held at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, April 20, 2012, at St. Theresa Catholic Church in Theresa. Father Dennis Budka officiated and burial was at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday in St. Theresa Memorial Gardens in Theresa.
Relatives and friends called at the church on Friday from 4:00 p.m. until the time of Mass.
The Kietzer-Miller Funeral Home in Lomira was entrusted with Harold’s arrangements.
Harold’s family extends their heartfelt appreciation to the staff at Hope Health and Rehabilitation Center and Agnesian Hospice Hope for the tender care provided to Harold.
