Harold L. Skuldt, age 94, of West Bend, died Tuesday, January 27, 2009 at Cedar Community.
He was born on October 5, 1914 to the late Sever and Anna (Nee Erickson) Skuldt in Primrose, WI. Because of the economic factors of the time, Harold had a paper route, which included the capitol square in Madison, WI, delivering papers from 7th grade until he graduated with a Bachelors degree from the University of Wisconsin in 1940.
Shortly after college, he was united in marriage to Cordelia (Cordy) Wernecke on June 5, 1942 in Plymouth, WI. Harold went on to serve as a First Lieutenant in the 603rd Engineer Camouflage Battalion. He was part of the 23rd Headquarters Special Troops and was charged with deceiving the enemy in the European Theatre. In 1948, he and Cordelia made their home in West Bend where they raised their family and hosted two AFS students, Yoshi from Japan in 1965 and Christy from Belgium in 1970.
Harold worked for the West Bend Company for 29 years before retiring in 1977. He and Cordy were former members of Immanuel UCC for many years. He enjoyed woodworking, making furniture and carving ducks. In 1992 he and Cordy moved to Cedar Community where he was able to continue with his love of woodworking in the Woodshop.
He is survived by his 6 children, Karen Skuldt of West Bend, Eric (Janet) Skuldt of Rochester, MN, Dale (Denise) Skuldt of Kingwood, TX, Kristin (Lon) Blaser of Eau Claire, Mary (Roy) Ames of Broken Arrow, OK, and Ann (Ron) Mattson of Pearl City, IL. He is further survived by 12 grandchildren, Jim, Dean (Juliet), Jon E., D. Jon, and Beth Skuldt, Jennifer (Tim) Langer, Emily, Ben, and Greg Blaser, Tom and Stephanie Ames, and Maija Mattson; three great-granddaughters, Lucia and Cordelia Skuldt and Isabelle Langer; many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Cordy; his parents, his four siblings, Burnell Skuldt, Mamie Fitchner, Hjalmar Skuldt and Alice O'Malley; sisters-in-law, Margaret Wernecke and Helene (Kerby) Tink.
A memorial service is planned for Saturday, January 31st at the Cedar Community Theater. Please use the Theater Entrance. Visitation will be at the theater from 1:00 pm until the time of service at 3:00 pm. Fellowship with the family will follow the service. A private family graveside service will be held in honor of Harold at Washington County Memorial Park.
