September 25, 1940 — November 18, 2013

Hartwell James "Jim" Paul, 73, of Kewaskum, passed away on Monday, November 18, 2013.

He was born in Portage, the son of the late Hartwell Joseph "Dutch" and Eleanor (Cooley) Paul and stepson of the late Sabina (Thiessen) Paul. On May 12, 1962, he was united in marriage to Kathleen Doolan in Milwaukee.

Jim proudly served his country in the U. S. Navy. He co-founded Horn and Paul Auction Company in 1969 and in 1975 founded Paul Auction Company in Kewaskum.

Jim was an antique collector and was well known as a "picker" who enjoyed wheeling and dealing. He was a phenomenal gourmet cook who enjoyed entertaining and hosting guests. He had the unique ability to dine at a restaurant and recreate the entree at home in the kitchen.

Those Jim leaves behind include his loving wife of 51 years, Kathy; four children, Mike (Karen) Paul of Kewaskum, Mary (Jeff) Spurgat of Madison, Michelle Paul (Glen Hupfer) of West Bend and John Paul of Bend, Oregon; six grandchildren, Jack and Nick Paul, Kaitlin and Jakob Spurgat, Liam and Luke Hupfer, other relatives, many auction associates, customers and friends.

A memorial remembrance was held at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 26, 2013, at The Columbian, 3245 Lighthouse Lane in West Bend, where the Paul family greeted relatives and friends from 3:00 until 6:00 p.m. Dinner followed at 6:30 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established at a later date.

The Miller Funeral Home in Kewaskum was entrusted with Jim's arrangements.
