Hazel A. Blank, (nee Backhaus), age 88, went to be with the Lord on Monday, March 1, 2010 at Chapel Hill Community in Canal Fulton, Ohio.
She was born on September 13, 1921 on her family's farm in the town of Ashford in Fond du Lac County to the late Oscar and Alvina (nee Pitt) Backhaus. On October 25, 1952, Hazel was united in marriage to Edward Blank. Edward preceded her in death on April 1, 1993.
Hazel was a longtime member of First Baptist Church in West Bend where she taught Sunday School and sang in the church choir. In 1993, after moving to Ohio to be closer to her daughter, she became a member of First Baptist Church in Louisville, Ohio. Hazel enjoyed gardening and baking.
She is survived by her daughter, Nancy (Dale) Schweitzer of Minerva, OH; three grandchildren, Kristi, Andrew and Sarah; other relatives and friends.
Besides her parents and husband, Hazel was preceded in death by her brother, Roy Backhaus.
Funeral services in remembrance of Hazel will be held on Saturday, March 6th at 1:30 pm at First Baptist Church (2300 S. Main Street) West Bend. Pastor Bruce Dunford will officiate. Visitation will be at the church on Saturday from 12:30 pm until the time of the services. Burial will follow in Union Cemetery in Campbellsport.
