Helen T. Schoofs

Helen T. Schoofs, 91, of Kewaskum, passed away on Friday, July 11, 2008, at Cedar Lake Health Care Center in the town of West Bend.


She was born on November 12, 1916, in Prairie du Chien, the daughter of the late John and Mary (Poladna) Mezera, and on September 8, 1943, she was united in marriage to Joseph Weinert at St. Bridget’s Catholic Church in the town of Wayne. Joseph preceded her in death on July 23, 1949.


On April 7, 1951, Helen was united in marriage to Theodore J. Schoofs at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Kewaskum. Theodore preceded her in death on September 25, 2005.


Helen was employed by the Kewaskum School District in food service for many years. She was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Kewaskum and the Holy Trinity Christian Women. Helen was a devoted wife and mother and enjoyed spending time with her family and gardening.


Survivors include her children, John Schoofs of Kewaskum, Mary Anne (Terry) Theusch of West Bend, Father Allan Weinert CSSR of Denver, Colorado, Sylvester (Debbie) Schoofs of Green Bay, Steven (Meg) Schoofs of Fond du Lac and Sharon Derks of Madison; nine grandchildren, Kim (MariBeth) Theusch of Woodbury, Minnesota, Kelli (Brian) DeRuyter of West Bend, Korey Theusch of Madison, Christopher (Jessie) Schoofs and Jeffrey Schoofs both of Fond du Lac, Sara (Rick) Klingbile and Emily Yang both of Green Bay, Ebon Derks and Bailey Derks both of Madison; five great-grandchildren, Emily and Tyler DeRuyter of West Bend, James and Mary Schoofs of Fond du Lac and Tayte Schoofs of Fond du Lac; two sisters, Celia Redmond of Rockford, Illinois and Dorothy Redmond of Minneapolis, Minnesota, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.


In addition to her husbands, Joseph and Theodore, and her parents, Helen was preceded in death by a sister, Marguerite (Christy) Peterson and two brothers-in-law, Bill and John Redmond.


A Mass of Christian Burial for Helen was held at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 16, 2008, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 331 Main Street in Kewaskum. Father Allan Weinert and Father Edwin Kornath concelebrated and burial was at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday in the parish cemetery.


Relatives and friends called at the church on Wednesday from 4:00 p.m. until the time of Mass.
