Herbert E. "Herbie" Burckardt Jr., age 85, of Long Lake in Dundee, was granted eternal rest on Wednesday, June 12, 2013 in the comfort of his home with his loving wife by his side.
Herbie was born on May 12, 1928 in West Bend to the late Herbert and Frances (nee Herbst) Burckardt Sr. Growing up, Herbie attended West Bend High School and was part of the class of 1948. He was united in marriage to Geraldine "Geri" Stockhausen on May 11, 1957 at Holy Angels Catholic Church in West Bend where he also worked as a maintenance technician. Herbie and Geri spent many happy years together at their home on Long Lake in Dundee and up north at their other home on Long Lake in Rib Lake. In his free time Herbie enjoyed the simple pleasures in life, hunting, fishing, and snowmobiling.
Herbie is survived by his loving wife, Geri; his sister-in-law, Marilyn (Sonny) Carstens of West Bend; his niece, Sandra Carstens of Cary, North Carolina; and two nephews, Dan (Rita) Carstens of West Bend and Everest (John Lindow) Brooks of West Bend. He is further survived by many other dear relatives and close friends.
Herbie was preceded in death by his parents; and his sister-in-law, Marjorie (O.J.) Bailey.
A Mass of Christian Burial in remembrance of Herbie will be held on Saturday, June 15th at 10:30 am at Shepherd of the Hills Catholic Parish (W1562 County Rd. B Eden, WI 53019). Father Joseph Juknialis will officiate. Visitation will be on Saturday at church from 9:30 am until the time of Mass. Burial will take place in Union Cemetery in West Bend.
