Homer W. Schaub, 87, of Kewaskum, passed away on Monday, January 28, 2013, at Kathy Hospice in the town of Polk, surrounded by his family.
He was born on July 19, 1925, in Kewaskum, the son of the late William and Freida (Bilgo) Schaub, and on October 8, 1949, he was united in marriage to Mary Slesar at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Kewaskum. Mary preceded Homer in death on June 13, 2009.
Homer proudly served his country in the U. S. Army during World War II and earned a Purple Heart. Following his discharge from the Army, Homer attended barber school in Chicago. Homer had his own barbershop business in Kewaskum, retiring in 1986 after nearly 40 years of service to area customers.
Homer was a dedicated member of Peace United Church of Christ, a member of the Kewaskum Lions Club for 26 years and a member of the Robert G. Romaine American Legion Post 384 Kewaskum for more than 60 years.
Those Homer leaves behind to cherish his memory include four children, Jean (Ken) Crass and Judy (Mark) Biertzer both of West Bend, Jim (Tracey) Schaub and Jenny (Dan) Schroeder both of Kewaskum; eight grandchildren, Sara Crass (fiance, Jason Hull), Kelly Crass, Gabe (Elisa) Biertzer, Ali (Aaron) Christ, Luke (Rachel) Biertzer, Tanner Schaub, Matt Schroeder (Justin Finseth) and Katie Schroeder; three great-grandchildren, Clara and Elsie Christ and Liam Biertzer, other relatives and many friends.
In addition to his wife and parents, Homer was preceded in death by a sister, Beulah (August) Koch.
A memorial service for Homer was held at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, February 1, 2013, at Peace United Church of Christ in Kewaskum with Rev. Eric Kirkegaard officiating. Military honor rites by members of the Robert G. Romaine American Legion Post 384 Kewaskum followed the church service. Burial of his cremains was at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday in Washington County Memorial Park in West Bend.
The family greeted relatives and friends at the church on Friday from 4:00 p.m. until the time of services.
The Miller Funeral Home in Kewaskum was entrusted with Homer’s arrangements.
The Schaub family extends their heartfelt appreciation to the staff of Ivy Manor in Campbellsport, St. Joseph’s Hospital, Kathy Hospice and Dr. Smale for the compassionate care provided to Homer.
