Howard E. Landvatter

Howard E. Landvatter, age 81, of West Bend, passed away Wednesday July 4, 2007 at the Landmark at Jackson Crossings in Jackson.

He was born on April 18, 1926 in the Town of Barton to the late Alfred and Esther (nee Abel) Landvatter and graduated from West Bend High School in the class of 1944. He then enlisted in the U.S. Army and served in the Pacific Theater during WW II. After his discharge Howard returned to West Bend and became employed at the Wisconsin Telephone Company, where he worked for over 36 years, retiring in 1984.

Howard was united in marriage to Doris Backus on May 14, 1949 at St. John's Ev. Lutheran Church in West Bend. and they later became members of Good Shepherd Ev. Lutheran Church in West Bend. Doris preceded him in death on August 12, 2006.

In his spare time, Howard enjoyed fishing and card playing. Always a hard worker, Howard was generous with his time helping his family and friends, as well as working at Good Shepherd Church.

Howard is survived by three daughters, Jane (Larry) Nunnenkamp of Aurora, NE, Patricia (Clayton) Batzler of Knowles, and Beth (David) Fellenz of West Bend; four grandchildren, Lisa (Chad) Dalager, Eric (Becky), Shane and Todd Nunnenkamp; four great-grandchildren, Blake and Macy Dalager, Lana and Lauryn Nunnenkamp; one brother, Wilbert Landvatter of West Bend; a brother-in-law, Warren (Joan) Backus of Calumet; other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by two sons, James and Scott; two grandsons, Christopher and Adam Nunnenkamp; a brother Robert Landvatter; and two sisters-in-law, Beatrice and Julie.

Funeral services in remembrance of Howard will be held on Monday July 9th at 7:00 pm at Good Shepherd Ev. Lutheran Church (777 Indiana Ave.), West Bend. Rev. Robert Hein and Rev. John Paustian will co-officiate. Visitation will be Monday at the church only from 4:30 pm until the time of service. Burial will be in Washington County Memorial Park on Tuesday at 10:00 am. Memorials to Good Shepherd Ev. Lutheran Church are appreciated. Myrhum ~ Patten Funeral & Cremation Service is assisting the family.
