Howard E. Proeber, age 78, of the Town of Wayne, passed away Saturday March 14, 2008 at Virginia Highlands Health & Rehabilitation Center in Germantown.
He was born on July 28, 1930 on the family homestead farm in the Town of Barton to the late Emil and Amanda (nee Klumb) Proeber. He attended a one room school and St. John's Grade School. Howard graduated from West Bend High School in the class of 1948.
On June 19, 1954 Howard was united in marriage to Viola Kurtz at St. John's Ev. Lutheran Church, West Bend. Together they farmed in the Town of Wayne for many years. Viola preceded him in death in December of 2006.
Howard was a Life long member of St. John's Ev. Lutheran Church, a member of the Washington County Farm Bureau, and the Wisconsin Holstein Association.
He is survived by three children, Nancy (Melvin) Abel of Greenwood, Steven Proeber of West Bend, and Carol (Richard) Bundsgaard of Fayetteville, AR; four grandchildren, Adam (Kelly) Abel, Rebekah (Adam) Dorwaldt, Valerie Bundsgaard, and Kimberly Bundsaard; a great-granddaughter, Hannah Dorwaldt; a sister Lucille Jacklin of West Bend, a brother-in-law, Leonard (Norma) Kurtz of Neillsville; special friend Sandy Gengler of Slinger; other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by a brother and sister-in-law, Alfred and Alice Proeber; and a brother-in-law, Elroy Jacklin.
Funeral services in remembrance of Howard will be held on Tuesday March 17th at 6:00 pm at St. John's Ev. Lutheran Church (809 S. 6th St.). Rev. George Mumm will officiate. Visitation will be at the church Tuesday from 4:00 pm until the time of service. Burial will be Wednesday at 10:30 am in Washington County Memorial Park. Memorials to Bethesda Lutheran Home in Watertown, or St. John's Church are appreciated.
