Howard O. Kirchner, 85, of Kewaskum, passed away on Saturday, April 18, 2015, at his home.
Howard was born on July 21, 1929, the son of the late Erwin and Lorena (Klumb) Kirchner, and on May 14, 1955, he was united in marriage to Georgiana Reiland at St. Lucas Evangelical Lutheran Church in Kewaskum. Georgiana preceded Howard in death on May 31, 2007. On November 23, 2014 he was united in marriage to Janet Meyer (nee Butzlaff) at Peace United Church of Christ in Kewaskum.
Howard proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. After serving his county he continued farming with his father until he bought the farm in 1973. During this time he also worked at the FS Feed Mill in Kewaskum. The couple continued dairy farming until they sold the farm to his son in 1989. In 1991 he moved to West Bend. His God given talents were helping on the farm for many years and also at Sentry Foods and Piggly Wiggly in West Bend. He was seed dealer for Spangler Seed Tech for more than 33 years.
Howard was a member of V.F.W. Post 1393 West Bend, the West Bend American Legion Post 36, and the Kewaskum Snow Chiefs. He was a lifelong member of St. Lucas Evangelical Lutheran Church in Kewaskum. Howard’s hobby was fishing. He was the loving father, grandfather and a good friend to many. Howard will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Those Howard leaves behind to cherish his memory include his wife, Janet; two children, Robert Kirchner of Kewaskum and Laura (Dennis) Batterman of Mayville; four grandchildren, Aleshia and Austin Kirchner and Steve and Melissa Batterman; two step children, Debra (Michael) Lettow of Kewaskum and Jeff Meyer of Oshkosh; four step grandchildren; 6 step great grandchildren; a sister, Rosemary (Norman) Kempf; a sister-in-law, Gloria (Virgil) Weinreich of Newburg, other relatives and friends.
Howard was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Georgiana Kirchner.
Funeral services for Howard will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 22, 2015, at St. Lucas Evangelical Lutheran Church in Kewaskum. Rev. Timothy Henning will officiate and burial, with military honor rites, will follow in Lutheran Memorial Park in Kewaskum.
Howard’s family will greet relatives and friends at the church on Wednesday from 1:00 p.m. until the time of services.
The Miller Funeral Home in Kewaskum has been entrusted with Howards arrangements.
