Hugo J. "Huey" Straub Jr., 78, of Kewaskum, passed away on Sunday, April 6, 2014, at Cedar Community in the town of West Bend with his family at his side.
He was born on November 3, 1935, in the town of Ashford, the son of the late Hugo and Margaret (Weninger) Straub Sr. On May 25, 1963, he was united in marriage to Isabelle Miller at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Kewaskum.
Huey proudly served his country in the U. S. Marines from 1956-59. He was employed by Michels Corporation in Brownsville retiring after 22 years of service. Huey was a member of Operating Engineers Union Local 139, Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Kewaskum, the Kettle Moraine Marine Corps League Detachment 1203 and the Kewaskum Fire Department where he served from 1964-86 and was a member of the Rescue Squad.
Huey enjoyed deer hunting in Barron County with his son, Steve and grandson, Cal, and hunting small game with his hunting dogs. He was especially proud that all four of his children graduated college with Bachelors and Masters degrees. He will be deeply missed by his wife, his family and by all who knew him.
Those Huey leaves behind to cherish his memory include his loving wife of 50 years, Isabelle; four children, Steve (Jodi) Straub of Van Dyne, Rich (Jennifer) Straub of Arvada, Colorado, Mary (John) Totin of San Antonio, Texas and Jennifer (Ravi Hasanadka) Straub of Urbana, Illinois; six grandchildren, Cana, Calvary, Ashley and Korissa Straub, Naya Isabelle and Barack Hugo Hasanadka; two step grandchildren, John (Lisa) Totin and Amy Totin; a step-great-grandson, John Daniel Totin; two brothers, Charles (Delores) Straub and Neal (Lyra) Straub both of Kewaskum; a sister, Sr. Audrey Straub S.S.N.D. of Milwaukee; two brothers-in-law, Theodore (Patricia) Miller and Paul Dean both of Kewaskum; three sisters-in-law, Mary Ellen (John) McElhatton, Clare (William) Lehmann and Sharron Miller all of Kewaskum, nieces, nephews, other relatives, friends and his canine companion, Bucky.
In addition to his parents, Huey was preceded in death by two brothers, Fr. Carrol Straub and Claude (Ethel) Straub; his mother and father-in-law, Edward E. "Pat" and Mary "Mae" Miller; a niece and god daughter, Elaine Straub-Premo; a nephew and god son, Daniel Dean; two sisters-in-law, Sr. Donna Miller O.S.F. and Joan Dean; three brothers-in-law, Robert, David and Edward Miller; his step mothers-in-law, Virginia Miller and Lucina "Lu" Miller.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Huey was held on Friday, April 11, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Kewaskum. Father Edwin Kornath officiated and burial with military honor rites followed in St. Kilian Catholic Church Cemetery in St. Kilian.
The Straub family greeted relatives and friends on Thursday at the Miller Funeral Home in Kewaskum from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. where a prayer vigil was held at 7:00 p.m. The Kewaskum Fire Department had an honorary walk through on Thursday at the funeral home at 6:00 p.m. Visitation continued at the church on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of mass.

We are so profoundly grateful for all the support freely given from family, neighbors, and friends, and the amazing care Dad received from his healthcare providers. While we miss him every day, we are so glad that his suffering is finally over.
