Irene E. Foth, nee Matthies, 90, of West Bend, died Sunday, August 14, 2005 at the Cedar Lake Health Care Center, West Bend.
She was born February 12, 1915 in Milwaukee to the late Ernst and Olga (nee Blohm) Matthies. She married LeRoy Foth on June 25, 1938 in Milwaukee. In 1977 the couple moved to West Bend from Milwaukee. LeRoy passed away on August 31, 1982. Irene continued living at the Embassy Condominiums until moving to Cedar Bay at the Cedar Community in 2003.
Irene worked as a lab technician at Sealtest Foods in Milwaukee for 29 years, retiring in 1972. She volunteered with the Partners of St. Joseph's Community Hospital of West Bend for over 20 years, receiving a pin recognizing over 8500 hours of service. She was a member of Immanuel United Church of Christ in West Bend.
Irene loved entertaining, cooking and baking, needlepoint and embroidering. She was an excellent Scrabble player and also enjoyed playing cards.
She is survived by a nephew, Ernie (Pat) Matthies of West Bend; two nieces, Nanci (Mark) Rutter of Gilbert, AZ, and Joanne (Jon) Richards of Coppell, TX; two sisters-in-law, Inez Matthies of Kaukauna, and Bettie Foth of Phoenix, AZ; other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Ernst Matthies, two brothers-in-law, Ralph Foth and Gordon Foth, and a sister-in-law, Rose Anne Foth.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, August 17 at 11:00 a.m. at the Myrhum-Patten Funeral Home, West Bend. Rev. James Eckblad of Immanuel United Church of Christ will officiate and burial will follow in Washington County Memorial Park, West Bend. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
