Irene E. Prost

Irene E. Prost, 97, of Kewaskum, passed away at Kathy Hospice on Monday, April 16, 2012, surrounded by her family.


She was born on April 16, 1915, in the town of Auburn, the daughter of the late Robert and Ida (Bartelt) Bartelt, and on September 26, 1935, she was united in marriage to Albert W. Prost. Albert preceded Irene in death on June 20, 1964.


Irene was a life-long member of St. Lucas Lutheran Church in Kewaskum where she was baptized, confirmed and married. Irene and Albert farmed in Fond du Lac county and later moved to Kewaskum in 1960. She worked for Dr. Richard Edwards in Kewaskum for one year and later was employed by Amity Leather in West Bend for 24 years until retiring in 1980.


Irene enjoyed needlepoint crafts, refinishing old woodwork, sketching, artwork, making wreaths, fishing with family until she was 90, going up North and spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.


Those Irene leaves behind to cherish her memory include three children, Albert (Elaine) Prost Jr. of Campbellsport, Darlene (Donald) Doebert of Plymouth and Dolores “Laurie” (Neal) Vetter of the town of Auburn; a brother, Robert Bartelt of West Bend; a sister, Eleanore Schultz of West Bend; two grandsons, Dan (Cindy) Doebert and Dale (Jess) Doebert; six great-grandchildren, Jacob, Jonathan, Taylor, Nathan, Chase and Kaylee, other relatives and friends.


In addition to her husband and parents, Irene was preceded in death by a sister, Bertha (Edwin) Paskey; a sister-in-law, Doris Bartelt; three brothers-in-law, Charles Prost, Clarence (Louise) Prost and Edward (Lorretta) Prost and a niece, Sandra Buettner.


Funeral services for Irene were held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 21, 2012, at the Miller Funeral Home in Kewaskum. Rev. Timothy Henning officiated and burial followed in Union Cemetery in Campbellsport.


Relatives and friends called at the funeral home on Saturday from noon until the time of services.
