James R. “J.R.” Raube, 76, of Brownsville, passed away peacefully in the presence of his family on Friday, January 14, 2011, at St. Francis Home in Fond du Lac after a short bout with cancer.
He was born on August 9, 1934, in Brandon, the son of the late Reinhold and Eileen (Weisbach) Raube, and on July 18, 1960, he was united in marriage to Dianne Polzin in Dubuque, Iowa.
J.R. proudly served his country in the U. S. Navy from April 1954 to April 1958, and served in the Naval Reserve from April 1961 until April 1977.
J.R. was employed as a maintenance mechanic for International Paper Company in Fond du Lac, retiring in 1997 after 29 years of service. He served as a volunteer fireman for the Brownsville Fire Department for 41 years, 33 of which were in active duty status, and J.R. was a member of St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Brownsville.
Those J.R. leaves behind to cherish his memory include his loving wife of 50 years, Dianne; three children, Beth (Jim) Krause of Fond du Lac, Greg (Cindy) Raube of Reeseville and Curt Raube of Manitowoc; five grandchildren, Daniel, Nathan, Jessica, Jennifer and Nora; a brother, Ralph (Caroline) Raube of Fond du Lac; two sisters, Linda (Lyle) Stiedeman and Sharon (Larry) Hughes both of Fond du Lac; two brothers-in-law, Eugene (Marge) Polzin of McLean, Virginia and Floyd Polzin of Hales Corners; four sisters-in-law, Ardis MacKenzie of Park Ridge, Illinois, Carol (John) Daniels of West Bend, Elizabeth Raube of Fond du Lac and Marilyn Raube of Mayville, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
In addition to his parents, J.R. was preceded in death by two brothers, Gerald and Donald Raube and his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Louis and Dorothy Polzin, Wilmer “Bill” and Gert Polzin, Marion Polzin Tharp, Jeanette Roeseler, Isabel and Clete Owens, Doug MacKenzie and Ron Teofilo.
A Memorial Service for J.R. was held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 19, 2011, at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 605 Highland Avenue in Brownsville with Rev. William Carter officiating. Military honor rites followed the service and J.R.’s cremains were buried at sea.
J.R.’s family received visitors at the church on Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of services.
The Kietzer-Miller Funeral Home in Lomira was entrusted with J.R.’s arrangements.
