James R. "Jim" Scribbins

September 1, 1928 — November 27, 2014

James R. Scribbins, age 86, of West Bend, passed away Thursday November 27, 2014 at Ivy Manor in West Bend.

He was born in Milwaukee on September 1, 1928 to the late Ralph and Katherine (nee Graf) Scribbins, and graduated from North Division High School in the class of 1946.

Jim spent his career employed with the Milwaukee Railroad working in corporate communications.

He was united in marriage to Barbara Driscoll on February 25, 1956 at Wauwatosa Methodist Church. They resided mainly in Milwaukee with a short seven year stretch when the railroad moved them to Chicago. Jim retired in 1993 and a year later they moved to Cedar Ridge in West Bend.

Jim enjoyed photography and playing the guitar. He also authored several books about the Milwaukee Road, and railroad life.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara; three cousins,Gladys Giacalone of Mosinee, Jeanette Johnson of Wausau, and Mary Moltzan of Mosinee; sister-in-law, Sylvia Driscoll of Kewaskum; niece, Sherry (Michael) Berend of West Bend; nephew, Terry (Mary) Driscoll of West Bend; great-niece, Angie Driscoll; two great-nephews, Ryan and John Driscoll; Barbara's special God-Daughter, Judy (Ed) Krepsky of West Bend; other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Katherine; and a brother-in-law, Gerald "Jerry" Driscoll.

A memorial service in remembrance of Jim will be held on Thursday January 8th at 2:00 pm at the Myrhum - Patten Funeral Home (1315 W. Washington St.) West Bend. Pastor Bill Dushek will officiate. Visitation will be Thursday at the Funeral Home from 1:00 pm until the time of service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Milwaukee Road Archives at the Milwaukee Public Library (814 W. Wisconsin Ave., Milwaukee, WI 53233) or the Milwaukee Road Historical Association (P.O. Box 307 Antioch, IL 60002-0307) are appreciated by the family.
