James Walters

November 27, 1937 — April 6, 2006

James Walters, age 68, of Theresa, died in a ski accident in Heavenly Valley, California on Thursday, April 6, 2006. He and his wife, Bridgette had been living there for the ski season.

Following high school, James served his country in the U. S. Navy for four years. After graduating from college, he was a teacher for a short time. He spent one year working at Cape Canaveral Space Center in Florida before entering the business world. He was an international business entrepreneur and enthusiast, and was instrumental in Jack Walters and Sons’ success throughout its 50-year history. James remained on the Board of Directors following his recent retirement. Last year he volunteered his services to the Red Cross and assisted in the hurricane relief efforts in New Orleans.

James was an active member of St. Theresa Catholic Church in Theresa for 34 years.

He was an avid skier, enjoyed marathon running, biking with his grandson, Ben and summers at his lake cottage with his wife, children and grandchildren.

James was united in marriage to Bridgette Hartz on February 11, 1961 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Waukesha. He is survived by his loving wife, Bridgette of Theresa and their two children, Wendy (Mike) Wade of Theresa and their children, Jeff, Peter, Ryan, Ben, Bridgette, Eric, Gabrielle and Matt; Craig (Ann) Walters of West Bend and their children, Tygh, Sean, Samantha and Cali. He will be sadly missed by all of us.

James is further survived by his mother, Alice (nee Luepke) Walters; a brother, William (Sandi) Walters and their children, Scott (Mary) Walters and Christopher (Heidi) Walters; his sister, Barbara (Tom) Zalewski; Patricia (nee Hartz) O’Neil, Jude (Chris) Sheridan, Mary (nee Hartz) Jack Cross, Jill (nee Hartz) Mick Schram, Matt (Lynn) Hartz, Jeff (Carol) Hartz and Tim (Sue) Hartz; an aunt, Bernice Lisko, nieces, nephews, other relatives, business associates and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his son, Duquesne James Walters on June 13, 1992 and by his father, John August “Jack” Walters on January 12, 1994.

A funeral liturgy was held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 13, 2006 at St. Theresa Catholic Church, 106 Church Street, Theresa and cremation followed.

Relatives and friends called on Thursday at the church from 10:00 a.m. until 12:45 p.m.
