Janet A. "Jan" Schmitz, (nee Smith), age 66, has been reunited with her husband, son and daughter in Heaven. She died peacefully on Tuesday, February 3, 2015 at St. Joseph's Hospital, West Bend after a long illness.
She was born on May 1, 1948 in Detroit, Michigan to the late Raymond and Anna (nee Haines) Smith. She moved to Wisconsin in 1963 where she later met and married Richard Schmitz and they raised two children.
Jan enjoyed bowling, cooking, fishing, playing cribbage and spending time with her family. She was generous and loving and was known for her infectious sense of humor.
She is survived by two sisters, Susanne (Joel) Ohman of Rhinelander, and Lynn (Roland) Krug of Summerfield, Florida; two brothers, Reed (Debra) Smith of West Bend, and Randall (Barbara) Smith of West Bend, nieces, nephews, great and great- great nieces and nephews, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Richard in 2012, daughter Theresa in 2013, and son Michael in 2011.
Funeral services in remembrance of Jan will be held on Saturday February 7th at 12:00 noon at the Myrhum - Patten Funeral Home (1315 w. Washington St.) West Bend, Deacon Dan Schroeder will officiate. Visitation will be on Saturday at the funeral home, from 9:00 am until the time of service and a luncheon will follow.
At her request, memorials to Interfaith Caregivers may be given in remembrance of Jan.
