Jean Kolkema

July 13, 1937 — June 27, 2010

Jean R. Kolkema, (nee Schanen), age 72, of West Bend, was called home to be with her husband of over 50 years on Sunday, June 27, 2010 at River Way Place in West Bend.

She was born on July 13, 1937 to the late Herman and Hilda (nee Mayer) Schanen in Port Washington. On June 22, 1957 she was united in marriage to Joseph "Buddy" Kolkema III at St. Mary's Church in Port Washington. Joe preceded her in death on April 4, 2007.

Jean enjoyed traveling, baking, reading and sitting in her lounge chair watching her children and grandchildren play. She loved to sew. Jean made her own clothes, her children's clothes and Barbie Doll clothing. She also enjoyed quilting. Jean was a member of the Homemaker's Club and Women of the Moose.

She is survived by her five children, Sue (fiancAC., Kurt) Kolkema of Honey Lake, Cindy (Calvin) Kolkema-Berndt of Shiocton, Debbie (Brian) Schmitt of West Bend, Bruce (Jennifer) Kolkema of Lincoln, MO, and Scott (Karen) Kolkema of West Bend; 13 grandchildren, Anita, Doug, Chad Stollenwerk, Christopher Kolkema, Cody, Calvin Jr., and Cailey Berndt, Carrie Jo Schaub, Pacey and Owen Kolkema, Tyler, Brian, and Joshua; two great-grandchildren, Tyler Stollenwerk and Irelyn Comfort; two sisters, Mary (Jerry) Moore of Ashville, NC and Christine (John) Gregozeski of Port Washington; seven brothers, John Roger (Polly) Schanen of Naples, FL, Donald (the late Annette) Schanen of Saukville, Herman (Marcia) Schanen of Port Washington, Paul (Olivia) Schanen of Waukesha, Kenneth Schanen of Fort Myers, Steven (Debbie) Schanen of Grafton, and Glen Schanen of Belgium; other relatives and friends.

A funeral service in remembrance of Jean will be held on Thursday, July 1st at 7:00 pm at Holy Angels Catholic Church, 138 N. 8th Avenue, West Bend with Rev. Gerald Brittain officiating. Visitation will be on Thursday at the church from 5:00 pm until the time of service. Burial will be Friday, July 2nd at 10:00 am in Washington County Memorial Park.

Memorials in Jean's name to Holy Angels Catholic Church are appreciated by the family.
