Jeanne M. Culver

April 8, 1933 — March 28, 2024

Jeanne Marie Bird Culver, 90, of Lincoln, Nebraska, died Thursday, March 28, 2024, at her home.  She was born April 8, 1933, to Bennett and Ethel Bird (Kintzler) on a farm in Byron, Wisconsin.  She attended elementary school at Byron #7 rural school and graduated from Oakfield High School in Oakfield, Wisconsin in May 1951.  She then attended the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh receiving a Rural School teaching degree and taught school in Fond du Lac County for two years.

Jeanne married Arthur “Art” E. Culver on June 5, 1954, at the United Methodist Church in Oakfield.  The couple moved to Menomonie, Wisconsin while Art attended the University of Wisconsin-Stout.  While there, Jeanne taught for one year at Elk Mound Public Schools and as a substitute teacher for four months at Bear Valley Elementary School in Wisconsin.

Following the birth of their sons, Jerry and John in Menomonie and Curt in Port Washington, the family moved to California in 1961.  Jeanne completed her Bachelor of Arts in education at the University of California-Long Beach and taught more than twenty years in the ABC school district in Los Angeles County.  Following retirement, Art and Jeanne enjoyed bird watching, traveling, and spending time with family.  Jeanne was a lifelong Green Bay Packer fan and loved Major League Baseball.

Jeanne will be remembered by her family and friends for her deep faith, zest for life, and adventurous spirit.  She embraced each new day with a thankful heart and saw it as an opportunity to show kindness to others.  Even in her later years, she was involved in charitable activities and making a difference in the lives of others around her.

Jeanne is survived by her sons, Jerry (Carla) Culver and John Culver of Lincoln, NE; and Curt Culver of Seal Beach, CA; as well as seven grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.  Jeanne was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Culver .
