Jeneane M. Laehn

December 7, 1945 — March 24, 2024

Jeneane “Jene” Marie Laehn (Halling), age 78 years, of Pepin, Wisconsin, was called home to be with the Lord on March 24, 2024, at 8:20 p.m. surrounded by her loving family.

Jeneane was born on December 7, 1945, in Plum City, WI to Glenn and Dolores Halling (Rundquist).  She graduated from Pepin High School, Buffalo County Teachers College, and the University of Wisconsin of River Falls.  She was united in marriage with Richard B. Laehn at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Pepin on August 31, 1963.

Jene taught elementary school at Cochrane-Fountain City and Gilmanton, WI before teaching for 34 years at the Wabasha-Kellogg Schools in Wabasha, MN.

She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Pepin where she served as one of the musicians, taught Sunday school and Bible school, was a member of the church council, member of the worship and music committee and the property and memorial committee. She accompanied the worship choir at Immanuel and served as contact person for the wedding and funeral coordinators. She was also a member of the IELCW.

Jene adored her granddaughters, enjoyed watching their activities, welcoming their friends, and supporting them in their adventures.  Later in life, she looked forward to their visits to Pepin most of all. Seeing them grow up and experience milestones in life brought her great joy.

We will remember her sassy humor, compassionate heart, generous spirit, and wicked Scrabble skills.  Jene supported many organizations.  Some of her favorites were Children’s Cancer Research Fund, Special Olympics, and the Pepin-Alma Eagles. She loved playing the piano, knitting, reading, cooking, and for a number of years, she sang in the Travelin’ Shoes Gospel Choir.

Those Jene left behind to cherish her memory include her husband Richard, her son Shaughn and his wife Angie and granddaughters Alexandra (Bryce) Anibas and Emma (Connor) Gross and her daughter Shelly and husband Jay Krueger and granddaughters Olivia (Jake) Fischer and Isabel Krueger. She is further survived by brother-in-law Charles (Lois) Laehn, sister-in-law Sharon (Roger) Freiheit, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Jene was preceded in death by her parents, Glenn and Dolores Halling.

A Memorial Service will take place at 1:00 pm on May 4, 2024, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 205 Pine Street, Pepin, WI.  Snacks and refreshments will be served following the service.

Memorials may be made to The Children’s Cancer Research Fund, Immanuel Lutheran Church, or the charity of your choice.
