Jerome A. "Jerry" Stautz

Jerome A. “Jerry” Stautz, age 77, of Shawano, formerly of Jackson and West Bend, passed away on Friday, June 9, 2006 at Shawano Medical Center in Shawano.

He was born on February 20, 1929 in Kewaskum, the son of the late Clifford and Elsa E. (Bruessel) Stautz, and on April 29, 1950, he was united in marriage to Alice Backhaus at Peace United Church of Christ in Kewaskum.

Jerry proudly served his country in the U. S. Army during the Korean War. He was an active member of the Shawano American Legion Post 117, Shawano 40-ET-8, the Clintonville VFW and Peace United Church of Christ in Shawano.

He was a former member of the Masonic Lodge 138 in West Bend, where he was past master, and a current member of the Masonic Lodge in Shawano.

Jerry was employed by the City of West Bend in the Clerk’s office for many years and was the clerk for the village of Jackson until his retirement. Jerry was also a member of the West Bend Fire and Rescue.

While living in Shawano County, Jerry was very involved as a Director of the Cloverleaf Lakes Sanitary District #1 and as a board member of the Cloverleaf Lakes Protective Association.

Survivors include his loving wife of 56 years, Alice; four children, Karen (Gary) Moll of Weston, Rick (Kim) Stautz of Shawano, Laurie (Irv) Cummings of New London and Lisa (Scott) Abel of West Bend; two brothers, Clayton (Aletta) Stautz of Kewaskum and Floyd (Ellen) Stautz of Madison; seven grandchildren, John Moll, Theran, Meg and Ian Stautz, Nathan Fechter, Jeremiah and Hannah Abel, other relatives and friends.

Jerry’s funeral service was held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 14, 2006 at Peace United Church of Christ, 343 First Street, Kewaskum. Burial, with military graveside rites, followed in the church cemetery.

Relatives and friends called on Tuesday from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the Miller Funeral Home in Kewaskum and on Wednesday at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services.


Jerry’s family would like to extend a special thank you to the doctors, nurses and staff at the Shawano Medical Center for the loving care and kind support, especially to Dr. Hart and Dr. Swanson.
