Joan E. Diels, nee Thurow, age 63, of West Bend, entered Eternal Life on Thursday, April 18, 2013 at The Kathy Hospice in the Town of Polk, with family and friends by her side, after a courageous struggle with cancer since 1999.
She was born on May 24, 1949 in Hartford to the late Helmut and Arbuta (nee Lindert) Thurow. Joan graduated from Hartford Union High School in the class of 1967. She worked for the West Bend Company for 14 years and later worked for the City of West Bend as an administrative assistant. She also managed West Bend Terrace Apartments for over 15 years.
Joan enjoyed running, biking, and reading, and was a member of the YMCA. Joan enjoyed vacationing in Door County as well as in Sanibel, FL
Joan is survived by her son, Jonathan Diels of Madison; two sisters, Joyce and Jane; four brothers, Allen, Dale, Earl, and Eddie; other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and sister, Judith Thurow.
A funeral service in remembrance of Joan will be held on Tuesday, April 23, 2013 at 7:00 pm at the Myrhum-Patten Funeral Home, 1315 W. Washington Street, West Bend. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Tuesday from 4:30 pm until the time of the service.
