Joanne J. Zautner, 64, of St. Michaels, was called home into the loving arms of Christ on Wednesday, March 25, 2009.
She was born on November 9, 1944, in St. Michaels, the daughter of the late George and Frances (Staehler) Backhaus, and on September 30, 1963, she was united in marriage to James I. Zautner at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in West Bend.
Joanne was a member of St. Lucas Evangelical Lutheran Church in Kewaskum and the Altar Guild. She was employed as a beautician at Cedar Ridge, a profession she thoroughly enjoyed. Joanne was a devoted wife and mother who loved spending time with her family. She was devoted to her faith and walked daily with the Lord. She will be deeply missed by her husband, her family and by all who knew her.
Survivors include her husband, James I. Zautner; three children, Jay (Michelle) Zautner of Kewaskum, James M. Zautner of Milwaukee and Jed (Carrie) Zautner of West Bend; two brothers, Harold Backhaus of St. Michaels and Gerald (Betty) Backhaus of Kewaskum; a sister, Marlene (Charles) Schaefer of Cedarburg, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
In addition to her parents, Joanne was preceded in death by two sisters-in-law, Shirley Backhaus and Freida “Tootie” Backhaus.
Funeral services for Joanne were held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 28, 2009, at St. Lucas Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1417 Parkview Drive in Kewaskum. Rev. Timothy Henning officiated and cremation followed.
Relatives and friends called at the church on Saturday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of services.
