Joel Paul Bretzman

Joel Paul Bretzman, age 86, passed away on Tuesday, October 17, 2023, at Serenity Villa in Campbellsport.

Joel was born on February 7, 1937 in Milwaukee to the late Paul and Helen (nee Helle) Bretzmann. He was united in marriage to Carla Grunwald on May 7, 1960.

Joel was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in New Fane. He proudly served his country in the Navy. He worked at Mayfair Shopping Center in Mechanical Management for 34 years. He was then employed at the Milwaukee Convention Center for 10 years before retiring in 1999. Joel was a skilled bowler, scoring several 300 games.

Those left to cherish Joel’s memory include his wife of 63 years, Carla; two children, Laura (Douglas) Wenzel and Steven (Beth) Bretzman; five grandchildren, Kara (Scott) Wallisch, Erin (Mitchell) Paukner, Nick (Carrie) Wenzel, Garret (Kelly) Wenzel, and Andrea (Ryan) Nuernberg; ten great-grandchildren, Max, Payton, Riley, Hunter, Emma, Leah, Blythe, Oakley, Jordan, and Cole; two siblings, Tom Bretzmann and Lorraine McCauley; sister in-law, Sue Grunwald; other relatives and friends.

In addition to Joel’s parents, he is preceded in death by his sister, Ann Schroeder; brother in-law, Bill Grunwald.

VISITATION: Joel’s family will greet relatives and friends on Saturday, October 28, 2023, at St. John Lutheran Church, N683 CTH-S, New Fane, from 10:00 a.m. until time of service.

SERVICE: A memorial service for Joel will follow visitation on Saturday, October 28, 2023 at 12:00 p.m., with Reverend Mark Eckert officiating the service. Burial will follow at St. John Lutheran Cemetery in New Fane.
