John H. McNamara, 86, entered eternal life on Saturday, September 19, 2015.
He was born on April 28, 1929 in Detroit, MI to the late James and Margaret (nee Carroll) McNamara. After graduating from De LaSalle High School, John earned a Bachelor’s Degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Detroit and then a Master’s Degree from the University of Michigan.
After college, John enlisted in the U.S. Navy and completed Officer Training School. He served in the Navy for eight years as a Lieutenant. John also taught at the U.S. Naval Academy for four years. John continued to serve in the Naval Reserve and was honorably discharged in 1970.
John’s engineer career included employment at Chrysler Missile in Detroit, DuPont in Delaware, Schlitz Brewing in Milwaukee, and after Schlitz was purchased by Stroh’s Brewing, he worked for Stroh’s in Detroit until his retirement. He then moved to South Carolina to enjoy his retirement.
John’s memory will be cherished by his wife, Dotty; two daughters, Kathleen (Alan) Olsen of Germantown, and Lynne (Scott) Wilson of Middleton; two grandsons, Dan and Ted Wilson of Middleton; Mother of Kathleen, Karen, and Lynne, Irene McNamara; six step-children, Vicki Brogna, Rhonda Gutherie, Heidi Gutherie, Scott Gutherie, Walker Gutherie, and William Guido; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by a daughter, Karen McNamara, his second wife, Marjorie; and his two sisters, Francis Carter and Margaret Mary Burr.
A memorial service in remembrance of John will be held on Friday, September 25 at 4:00 p.m. at the Myrhum – Patten Funeral Home, 1315 W. Washington St., West Bend. The family will greet relatives and friends at the funeral home on Friday from 2:00 p.m. until the time of service.
