John C. Richter

John C. Richter, 87, of DeForest, formerly of Milwaukee and rural Adell, passed away on Thursday, December 22, 2011, at Parkside Assisted Living with his family at his side.


He was born April 26, 1924, in Milwaukee the son of the late Joseph and Fannie (nee Wells Moore) Richter, and on May 21, 1949, he was united in marriage to Audrey Fritsche at Zoar Lutheran Church in Milwaukee.


John proudly served his country in the U. S. Navy during World War II aboard the aircraft carrier, the U.S.S. Intrepid. He was employed as a civil engineer for the City of Milwaukee, retiring in 1986 after 38 years of service.


John and Audrey were long-time, active members of Walther Memorial Lutheran Church in Milwaukee and of St. John Lutheran Church in Sherman Center. John and Audrey loved to travel, extensively traveling in the United States, Europe and Australia. They both loved nature and enjoyed many walks in the woods. Cats and dogs were special companions to John especially, the family’s first and best dog, CoCo and their cat, Lizzy, who rested on John’s bed in his final days.


Those John leaves behind to cherish his memory include loving wife of 62 years, Audrey
Three daughters, Leah (Michael) Mueller of New Fane, Susan (Robert) Rittmann of Sun Prairie and Julie Scherr (special friend, Mike Brown) of Harshaw; five grandchildren, Eric (Dezra) Rittmann, Martin (Alaina) Rittmann, Sarah Scherr, Melynda (Mitch) Webster and Nichole Scherr (Jeremy Hein); seven great-grandchildren, Oliver, Natalie, Lily Grace and Cora Rose Rittmann, Molly Scherr, Beckett and Autumn Hein, other relatives and friends.


In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by a sister, Betty (Morrie) Robinson.


Funeral services for John were held at noon on Tuesday, December 27, 2011, at St. John Lutheran Church in Sherman Center, 1550 Highway SS, Random Lake. Rev. Mark Eckert officiated and burial followed in the church cemetery.


Relatives and friends called at the church on Tuesday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of services.


The Miller Funeral Home in Kewaskum was entrusted with John’s arrangements.


John’s family extends their heartfelt appreciation to the staff of Parkside Assisted Living and to Agrace Hospice for the compassionate care provided to John.
