John T. Schumann

November 26, 1927 — January 5, 2015

John T. Schumann, 87, of West Bend, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 5, 2015 at Cedar Lake Community West Bend.

He was born on November 26, 1927 to the late Hubert and Florence (nee Borchardt) Schumann in Milwaukee WI. He graduated from Wauwatosa public schools and was a member of the swim team at Wauwatosa East. Later he attended the University of Milwaukee. On May 16, 1958 he was united in marriage to Jean Rosenheimer at Big Cedar Lake. John was a real estate broker continuing the family business called Rock Inc. He was a member of the Milwaukee board of realtors and a lifelong member of the NRA. He also was a lifetime member of the Cedar Lake Yacht Club and the Cedar Lake Conservation Foundation. John was an outdoors man and enjoyed hunting, fishing, sailing scows and judging the races. He also guided big game hunts in Wyoming. One of his joys was sharing his love of nature with his family.

He is survived by his loving wife and best friend of 57 years, Jean; three children, Rock Thomas Schumann, Jennifer (Michael) Zajicek, and Jeffrey (Beverly) Kenkel; sister, Joy Erdman; brother, P. Richard (Jo) Schumann; sister in law, Suzanne (Ken) Priegel; and former sister in law, Virginia Schumann; Other relatives and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents; sister, Marilyn and brother in law (Walter) Rahn; Father and Mother in law, Gladys (John) Reis; father in law, Maurice Rosenheimer; and brothers in law, Tom Erdman and Burns "Blackie" Nelthorpe.

A memorial service in remembrance of John will be held on Friday, January 9, 2015 at 5:00 pm at the Myrhum-Patten Funeral Home (1315 W. Washington St. West Bend, WI 53095). Visitation will be at the funeral home on Friday from 3:30 pm until the time of service at 5:00 pm.

Memorials can be given to the Cedar Lake Conservation Foundation and to Alzheimer's Disease Research.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the nurses and staff at The Pavilion at Glacier Valley and Seasons Hospice and the nurses and staff at Cedar Community, Forest View. The family would also like to recognize and thank Kathy, Cedar Community Activity Program Manager, and Sara, Bev, and Kathy at Cedar Community Hospice for their special care and kindness. A final thank you to Judy at GeriCare for her on-going guidance and support to our family.
