John E. Waegerle, 82, of Lomira, passed away on Wednesday, April 13, 2011, at St. Francis Home in Fond du Lac.
He was born on October 11, 1928, in Lomira, the son of the late John and Dorothea (Walther) Waegerle, and on January 28, 1950, he was united in marriage to Jeanette Reible at St. Mary’s Parish House in Lomira. Jeanette preceded John in death on April 20, 2007.
John was a 1947 graduate of Lomira High School. His early employment was in the manufacturing industry. For 23 years he enjoyed his role as Building and Grounds supervisor for the Lomira School District. Following retirement, he continued to hear the school bells for another 15 years working as a crossing guard at the school.
John was a member of the Lomira Fire Department for 34 years and a lifelong member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Lomira.
His priority in life was his family and he enjoyed being part of each of their lives. He was an outdoor enthusiast and an avid Green Bay Packer fan.
Survivors include two daughters, KayAnn (Lenny) Fleischman of Campbellsport and their children, Randall (Sandra) Fleischman of Augusta and Rebecca (James) Beck of Campbellsport; Christine (Gary) Zimmerman of Fond du Lac and their children, Christy Zitlow of Appleton, Ryan (Kristin) Zitlow of Fond du Lac and Karl Zimmerman of Chicago; four great-grandsons, Keegan and Casey, Lucas and Jayden; a sister-in-law, Joan Waegerle of Chalfont, Pennsylvania, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
In addition to his wife and parents, John was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Waegerle, an infant brother and a brother-in-law, Eugene Reible.
A Mass of Christian Burial for John was held at noon on Saturday, April 16, 2011, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 699 Milwaukee Street in Lomira. Father Dennis Budka officiated and burial followed in Theresa Union Cemetery in Theresa.
Relatives and friends called at the church on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of Mass.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Agnesian Hospice.
The Kietzer-Miller Funeral Home in Lomira was entrusted with John’s arrangements.
John’s family wishes to give a heartfelt thanks to the staff and volunteers of Agnesian Hospice and St. Francis Home. Their compassionate and loving care provided Dad a sense of dignity and allowed him to stay in his home until his last week.
