John C. Scharf

October 13, 1932 — January 19, 2015

John C. Scharf, 82, of Lomira, was welcomed to heaven by his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Monday, January 19, 2015, at Hope Health and Rehabilitation Center in Lomira.

He was born on October 13, 1932, the son of the late William and Josephine (Zahn) Scharf in the very house he lived in until his recent time at Hope Health and Rehabilitation Center in Lomira.  John attended Winnebago Lutheran Academy and enlisted in the United States Army, serving in Alaska from 1955 to 1957, before it achieved statehood.  He received an early honorable discharge from the Army, as he was needed at home to run the family farm.  On January 18, 1958, John was united in marriage to Marjory Muentner.  John used the G.I. Bill to obtain his general equivalency diploma and also to take correspondence courses from Prairie Bible Institute in Alberta, Canada.  He also later studied to work as an electrician.

John worked on his farm for almost all of his life, milking dairy cows for many years.  He also worked in agricultural sales for more than 25 years, selling farm machinery, fertilizer and seed corn.  John enjoyed spending time with his family, watching sports, old Westerns and taking care of the many pets who roamed the farm throughout his years.

John’s passion was serving his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.  He devoted many hours volunteering on various committees and projects at both St. Paul’s Ev. Lutheran Church in Brownsville and later at Calvary Bible Church in Fond du Lac, including music, ushering and church council.

Those John leaves behind to cherish his memory include his loving wife of 57 years Marjory; two sons, Steven (Dawn) Scharf of Brownsville and Paul (Lynnette) Scharf of Columbus; four grandchildren, Kristin (Matt) Mose of Fond du Lac, Joshua (Jenny) Scharf of Brownsville, Charis Scharf and Bethany Scharf both of Brownsville; a great-grandchild, Autumn Scharf of Brownsville; a sister, Margaret Ungemach of Kenosha; a brother-in-law, John (Elaine) Muentner of Brownsville; a sister-in-law, Carolyn Muentner of Michigan, 15 nieces and nephews, many other relatives and friends.

In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by a young son, John Carl Scharf Jr.; a brother, Leonard (Mary) Scharf and three brothers-in-law, Walter Muentner, Irving Muentner and Edward Ungemach.

A funeral service for John will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 24, 2015, at the Kietzer-Miller Funeral Home in Lomira. Pastor Ken Kramer will officiate and burial will follow at Ebenezer Cemetery.

The Scharf family will greet relatives and friends on Saturday at the funeral home from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Winnebago Lutheran Academy at 475 E. Merrill Ave., Fond du Lac, WI 54935 or Calvary Bible Church at 70 E. Pioneer Rd., Fond du Lac, WI 54935.

The Kietzer-Miller Funeral Home in Lomira has been entrusted with John’s arrangements.

John’s family extends their heartfelt appreciation to the staffs at both Hope Health and Rehabilitation Center in Lomira and Agnesian Hospice for their care during John’s final days.
