Joseph R. "Joey" Schmitt

August 16, 1968 — July 8, 2012

Joseph R. “Joey” Schmitt, 43, of Kewaskum, passed away on Sunday, July 8, 2012.


He was born on August 16, 1968, in West Bend, the son of Roger “Butch” and Kathleen (Schneider) Schmitt, and on June 28, 1996, he was united in marriage to Jennifer Kumrow at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Kewaskum.


Joey was a 1986 graduate of Kewaskum High School. He was a volunteer member of the Kewaskum Fire Department serving as a firefighter and emergency medical technician for ten years and was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Kewaskum. Joey was employed as a foreman for Michels Corporation in Brownsville.


Those Joey leaves behind to cherish his memory include his loving wife of 16 years, Jennifer; four children, Riley, Delaney, Emma and Owen; his parents, Roger and Kathy Schmitt of Kewaskum; his brother, Patrick Schmitt of Kewaskum; his godson, Ryan Kopidlansky; his father and mother-in-law, David and Mary Kumrow of West Bend; his brother-in-law, John Kumrow of Campbellsport; four sisters-in-law, Kellie Ladowissi of West Bend, Peggy (Mark) Justman of Allenton, Caroline (Scott) Wollner of St. Michaels and Carla Schmitt of Boltonville, many nieces, nephews, other relatives, co-workers and many friends.


Joey was preceded in death by his brother, John “Spike” Schmitt; his paternal grandparents, Ervin “Pat” and Agatha Schmitt and his maternal grandparents, Lester and Margaret Schneider.


A Memorial Mass for Joey was held at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 12, 2012, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Kewaskum. Father Mark Jones officiated and burial of his cremains was at 10:00 a.m. on Friday in the parish cemetery.


Joey’s family received visitors at the church on Thursday from 4:00 p.m. until the time of Mass.


Memorials are appreciated.


The Miller Funeral Home in Kewaskum was entrusted with Joey’s arrangements.
