Joseph Sekeres Sr

Joseph Sekeres Sr., age 85, of the Town of Farmington, passed away Thursday December 31, 2009 at his home surrounded by his loving family.

He was born on October 7, 1924 in Milwaukee to the late John and Rose (nee Stark) Sekeres. He attended Pulaski High School in Milwaukee and then enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, and served in the Pacific theater during WW II. He later served again in Korea.

On October 21, 1944 Joe was united in marriage to Vivian Yesko in Milwaukee. They made their home near Fillmore and Joe worked as a letter carrier for the United States Post Office out of West Bend. He was well known as "Joe the Mailman". He retired from the post office in 1982 and started driving for Johnson Bus Service. He held that job until he retired in 2007.

Joe was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Newburg, an honorary member of the Fillmore Fire Dept., and a former Town Supervisor for Farmington Township. He played soccer in the late 40's for the Hungarian Tigers and went on to become state champions. Joe enjoyed woodworking and being with his family.

He is survived by his wife, Vivian; seven children, Joan (David) Fellin of Lac du Flambeau, Melanie (john) Reseburg of Beechwood, Brian (Nancy) Sekeres of Fillmore, Joseph Sekeres Jr. of Rhinelander, John (LeAnna) Sekeres of Fillmore, Amy (Jim Willkom) Sekeres of Fredonia, and Michael (Lisa) Sekeres of Kailua, HI; 15 grandchildren, Vicky, Sarah, David Jr., Tonya, Buffy, RyAnne, Jenny, Darrick, Amanda, Katie, Rebekka, Jessica, Ashley, Faith, and Graci; 18 great-grandchildren; three sister-in-laws, Marilyn (Bill) Platz of Oconomowoc, Marian Yesko of East Troy, and Arlene (Larry) Waddick of West Bend; two brother-in-laws, James (Pat) Yesko of Waterford, and Edward (Chris) Yesko of Wautoma; along with Joe's faithful friend "Tilly".

He was preceded in death by a son, Stephen; a great-grandson, Parker Hoerig; a sister and her husband, Helen and Louis Krisbaker; and a brother-in-law, Daniel Yesko.

Mass of Christian Burial in remembrance of Joe will be held on Wednesday January 6th at 5:00 pm at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Newburg (521 Congress Drive). Rev. Kevin Kowalske will be the celebrant. Visitation will be Wednesday at the church from 1:00 pm until the time of Mass. Cremation will follow at Myrhum ~ Patten Funeral & Cremation Service, and inurnment of Joe's cremated remains will be in St. Mary's Cemetery-Little Kohler.
