Joseph "Joe" M. Boland, Jr.

May 23, 1936 — August 20, 2023

Joseph “Joe” Martin Boland, Jr., 87, of Pewaukee passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 20, 2023, at home with his family by his side.

He was born on May 23, 1936, to the late Joseph and Margaret “Peg” (nee Limburg) Boland, Sr. in South Bend, Indiana. He graduated from South Bend Central High School (1955) and the University of Notre Dame (1959). Joe started his career at Wheelabrator Corp. in Mishawaka, IN which eventually brought him to Milwaukee, WI. On March 11, 1972, he was united in marriage to Kathryn “Kay” Marcussen in Waukegan, IL.

Kay joined Joe to live on Pewaukee Lake where they raised their family and enjoyed time with friends and family. In 1975 he started his own business, Industrial Associates, Inc., and ran it until he retired. Under his leadership, he fostered a close-knit, high character company that treated their employees like family. Joe was a mentor to many throughout this time in his life. In 1986, sensing a need for sailors to gather over the winter, he was one of three partners who founded Strictly Sail, the first and only all sailboat show in the Midwest.

Joe was a devoted, loving husband and father who deeply adored his grandchildren. He was generous, kind and caring, had an infectious laugh and enjoyed life.  Joe could walk into a room full of strangers and walk out with a room full of friends.

He was a longstanding member of the Pewaukee Yacht Club, St. Anthony on the Lake Catholic Church, and Bilge Puller #453. He served on various boards and committees, including Time Out and over 14 years on the Pewaukee Lake Sailing School board.

Joe was a life-long learner and enjoyed reading, especially history books. He loved sailing, traveling, and spending time with friends and family. Some of his favorite memories included sailing in the Apostle Islands, U.S. Virgin Islands, Bermuda, Cuba, around Cape Coral, traveling to Ireland and Alaska and countless hours of road trips around the United States. He was an avid Notre Dame football and Green Bay Packer fan.

Those Joe leaves behind to cherish his memory include his loving wife of 51 years, Kay Boland; four children, Karen (Rick) Foulke, Bruce Boland, Joseph “Joby” Boland III, and Michael “Mike” Boland; five grandchildren, Zachary “Zack” Lisien, Madeline “Maddy” (Ben) Wilson, Reagan Boland, Georgia Boland, and Maxwell “Max” Boland; three great-grandchildren, Audrey, Juniper Lee, and Birdie Mae; a sister, Margaret “Meg” (Michael Einisman) Boland; many cousins, especially those in Pennsylvania, other relatives and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents.
