Kenneth Meilahn, of Kewaskum, found peace on Sunday, January 29, 2006 at the age of 66 years, after a long and courageous battle with diabetes. He was currently a resident of Hope Health and Rehabilitation Center in Lomira.
Ken was born on March 12, 1939 in the town of Kewaskum, the son of the late Walter and Ada (Schulz) Meilahn, and graduated from Kewaskum High School as valedictorian of the class of 1957. He attended the University of Wisconsin at Madison.
His working life was spent assisting his brother in the operation of a small land surveying firm, where he was a very efficient and accurate instrument operator, until his retirement in 2001. He also took pride in setting numerous large concrete monuments to preserve the control points of the U.S. Government Land Survey in the Washington County area.
His other interests included the study of history, especially of the Civil War, about which he was very knowledgeable, traveling to Civil War battlefields and visiting most of the National Parks west of the Mississippi.
Ken is survived by a sister, Yvonne (James) Garon of Appleton; a nephew, Steven (Jennette) Garon and their daughter Kaitlin of Bellevue, Washington; two brothers, Dan Meilahn of Fairview Heights, Illinois and Ted Meilahn of Kewaskum; an aunt, Verona Habeck of Cascade; a foster nephew, S. Dean (Myong Sun) Hiett serving with the U.S. Army in Korea and their children, Alex and Jamie, several cousins, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by a special aunt, Meta L. Schulz.
Funeral services will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, February 3, 2006 at the Miller Funeral Home, 215 Forest Avenue, Kewaskum with Rev. Jon Claude Bartlett officiating. Burial will be in Union Cemetery in West Bend. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 2:00 p.m. until the time of services.
