Kenneth G. Schoebel

May 11, 1931 — November 5, 2014

Kenneth G. “Ken” Schoebel, 83, a lifelong resident of the town of Theresa, entered eternal rest on Wednesday, November 5, 2014, at Hope Health and Rehabilitation Center in Lomira.

He was born on May 11, 1931, in Hartford, the son of the late Oswald and Ethel (Weber) Schoebel. Ken attended Rock River School and as a youngster his father took him to auctions which planted a seed. When he had a family of his own Ken attended Auction School in Kansas City, Missouri and had lots of auctions during his life, including 32 years for Consolidated Catholic Lomira and Theresa Schools.

On May 15, 1954, he was united in marriage to LaVerne Slavik at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Newburg. The couple farmed the Schoebel homestead for many years. Ken supervised a pea harvesting crew for the Baker Canning Company in Theresa, was a truck driver for Batzler’s Trucking and Howie Gundrum Trucking and later had his own trucking business hauling for Mayville Canning Company for 13 years. He drove school bus for the Lomira and Slinger School Districts and also obtained his real estate broker’s license.

Ken was a lifelong member of St. Theresa Catholic Church in Theresa, where he served as an usher and communion minister. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus Father Michael McGivney Council 12621, Catholic Foresters (receiving the Legion of Honor award) and was a past Lion member.

Ken always had a dream to go deer hunting in Wyoming and in 2000 he shot a mule deer there. Although he never received his high school diploma, Ken was a hard worker and accomplished a lot in his lifetime. He will be deeply missed by his wife, his family and by all who knew him.

Those Ken leaves behind to cherish his memory include his loving wife of 60 years, LaVerne; three children, Kelvin (Pauline) Schoebel of West Bend, Joan (Wayne) Schanke of New Holstein and Julie (Brian) Konrath of Woodland; a grandson, Michael (Sarah) Schanke of Fox Lake; six sisters-in-law, Rosemary Barth and Betty (Sunny) Mapes both of West Bend, Eileen Steger of Ashippun, Pat (Lloyd) Mueller of Kewaskum, Janice (Joseph) Klahn of Campbellsport and Jean (Sylvester) Krahn of Adell; three brothers-in-law, Richard Slavik of West Bend, Robert (Carolyn) Slavik of Oshkosh and Raymond (Diane) Slavik of DePere, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

In addition to his parents, Ken was preceded in death by a grandson, Gregory Schanke; two brothers-in-law, Roman Barth and Joseph Steger; a sister-in-law, Joan Slavik and two nephews, Tony Steger and Tony Slavik.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Ken will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 11, 2014, at St. Theresa Catholic Church, 106 Church Street in Theresa. Father Tom Biersack will officiate and burial will follow Mass in St. Theresa Memorial Gardens in Theresa.

Ken’s family will greet relatives and friends at the Kietzer-Miller Funeral Home in Lomira on Monday from 3:00 until 7:00 p.m. and at the church on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of Mass.
