Laverne W. Hattendorf, nee Meyer, age 85, of Campbellsport, WI, formerly of Crete, IL, passed away Thursday, September 16, 2004 at Aurora Medical Center in Hartford, WI.
She was born on November 14, 1918 in Matteson, IL, to the late Archie and Lillie (nee Bode) Meyer. On May 4, 1941 Laverne was united in marriage to Vernon Hattendorf at Immanuel Ev. Lutheran Church in Matteson. Together they farmed in Matteson until retiring in 1983, after which they moved to Crete, IL. Vernon preceded her in death in 1991 and in 2001 Laverne moved to Campbellsport to live with her daughter and family.
Family and church have always been important in Lavern's life. As a member of Immanuel Ev. Lutheran Church she taught Sunday School for 25 years, was a member of the Alter Guild, Choir, and a charter member of the Ladies Aid. After moving to Crete she joined Trinity Ev. Lutheran Church and was a member of the Simeon & Anna Society. Upon moving to Campbellsport she joined Zion Ev. Lutheran Church in the town of Wayne and was a member of the Zion Ladies Aid.
Through the years Laverne was also active in many senior social groups such as the Nifty Fifty, and the Crete Upper Crust.
She is survived by two children, Ronald (Diane) Hattendorf of Monee, IL, and JoAnne (Dennis) Noel of Campbellsport, WI; Three grandchildren, Renee (FiancAC. Steve Brammer) Hattendorf, Rachel Hattendorf, and Chris (Stephanie) Noel, along with a great-grandson Brian Noel; Two sisters-in-law, Alice Henning and Marie Neitzel, both of Crete, IL; other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by a sister-in-law Hilda Seitz.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, September 21 at 10:00am at Trinity Ev. Lutheran Church in Crete, IL. Rev. John Stellick of Trinity Ev. Lutheran Church and Rev. Steve Bode of Zion Ev. Lutheran Church will co-officiate. Burial will follow in Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery, Richton Park. Visitation will be Sunday at Zion Ev. Lutheran Church from 2:00pm until 4:00pm, Monday at Hirsch's Spindler-Koelling Funeral Chapel in Crete from 2:00pm until 9:00pm, and Tuesday at Trinity Ev. Lutheran Church from 9:00am until the time of service.
