Laverne C. Hron

June 5, 1911 — July 5, 2007

LaVerne C. Hron, 96, of Kewaskum, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 5, 2007, at Cedar Lake Health Care Center in the town of West Bend.


She was born on June 5, 1911, on the family homestead in Fillmore the daughter of the late Hugo and Martha (Beger) Bratz, and on September 26, 1942, she was united in marriage to Albert “Dotz” Hron, when he was home on leave from the Army, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Kewaskum. Dotz preceded her in death on April 23, 1988.


LaVerne decided already by second grade she wanted to be a teacher. Following graduating from Random Lake High School, LaVerne attended Milwaukee State Teachers College. After graduation, she taught in two country schools, and a state graded school before coming to Kewaskum Elementary School, where she taught fourth grade for many years. LaVerne was a dedicated teacher who especially loved teaching reading and tutored children in reading until she was almost 90 years old. She cherished all of her students and after retirement volunteered as a tutor at Holy Trinity Catholic School in Kewaskum.


LaVerne was an active member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Kewaskum where she was very involved with the Human Concerns Committee and a member of the Holy Trinity Christian Women. She was a charter member of the Kewaskum Women’s Club, a charter member of Hon-E-Kor Country Club, a longtime member of card clubs in Campbellsport and West Bend, a member of Delta Kappa Gamma and the Retired Teachers Association for many years.


She was an avid Green Bay Packer fan, enjoyed playing bridge, traveling and golfing, which she did until she was 90. LaVerne touched the lives of many people and will fondly be remembered by her family and by all who knew her.


Survivors include two sisters, Laura Mathews of West Bend and Delilah Leifer of Wauwatosa; two nephews, James Leifer of Wauwatosa and Ronald (Sherrill) Leifer of West Bend; a great-niece, Sara (Jeremy) Roloff of Milwaukee; a great-nephew, Eric Leifer of Milwaukee; a sister-in-law, Pearl Miller of Henderson, Nevada; a step brother-in-law, Francis (Hope) Roden of Fond du Lac, other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.


In addition to her husband and parents, LaVerne was preceded in death by five brothers-in-law, Glen Mathews, Robert Leifer, Fred Miller, Lloyd (Florence) Hron and Elroy (Mary) Hron and a sister-in-law, Eleanor (Harold “Mixie”) Marx.


A Mass of Christian Burial for LaVerne will be held at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 10, 2007, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 331 Main Street, Kewaskum. Father Edwin Kornath will officiate and burial will be at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday in the parish cemetery.


Relatives and friends may call on Tuesday at the church from 3:00 p.m. until the time of services.


Memorials to the Alzheimer’s Association, the Kewaskum Public Library or Holy Trinity School Library for children’s books are appreciated.


LaVerne’s family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Cedar Lake Health Care Center for the compassionate care provided to LaVerne, especially in the Friendship House and in Cove 3.
