Lee N. Batterman, 58, of the town of Byron, passed away on Friday, August 13, 2010, at Theda Clark Medical Center in Neenah from injuries received in a farming accident.
He was born on October 14, 1951, in Waupun, the son of the late Neil C. and Ruth (Zills) Batterman, and on June 11, 1983, he was united in marriage to Ruth Smedema at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Oakfield.
In his younger years, Lee was an active 4-H member showing Chester White hogs and Dorset sheep at county and state fairs. Lee was a former member of the Fond du Lac County Pork Producers and of the Market Livestock Sales Committee. He hauled livestock for Batterman Livestock Trucking and farmed in the town of Byron.
Lee was an avid deer and turkey hunter and enjoyed fishing trips to Canada with his friends. He will fondly be remembered as being the first customer at Kelley Country Creamery, arriving before the doors opened, as a regular customer at Eden Café and as one who enjoyed ice cream daily. He will be deeply missed by his wife, his family and by all who knew him.
Those Lee leaves behind to cherish his memory include his wife, Ruth; five children, Michael Batterman (special friend, Erica Bohn), Katie (Ryan) Wagner, Ryan, Emily and Allison Batterman; a sister, Kay (Dave) Steffens of the town of Byron and their sons, Brian and Scott; three brothers-in-law, Gene (Gloria) Smedema of Waupun, Eric (Troyce) Smedema of Texas and Ken (Jenny) Smedema of Sun Prairie; two sisters-in-law, Alyce (John) Reese of Illinois and Nancy (Matt) Gattuso of Fond du Lac, many nieces, nephews other relatives and many good friends.
In addition to his parents, Lee was preceded in death by an infant son, Charles.
A Memorial Service for Lee was held at noon on Wednesday, August 18, 2010, at Trinity United Methodist Church, 300 Church Street in Lomira with Rev. Kerry Wilson officiating.
Lee’s family greeted relatives and friends at a time of fellowship following the service.
Private family burial was in Byron Cemetery in the town of Byron.
