Leland E. Schaub

Leland E. Schaub, 81, of the town of Wayne, passed away on Friday, August 1, 2008, at his home.


He was born on March 12, 1927, in the town of Wayne, the son of the late Melvin and Elsie (Dobke) Schaub and was raised on the family homestead, Dar-Lee Acres. The farm has been in the Schaub family for 150 years. Leland attended Spring School and was a 1945 graduate of Kewaskum High School.


On May 19, 1951, he was united in marriage to Darlene Kapfer at Fifth Avenue United Methodist Church in West Bend. The couple farmed on the family homestead receiving the Washington County Conservation Award in 1969 and the Town of Wayne Centennial Award. Leland retired from farming in 1986.


Leland was a member of St. Lucas Evangelical Lutheran Church in Kewaskum and served on the church cemetery board. He was a member of the FMHA Board, the building committee for Wayne Elementary School and was a long-time member of the Kewaskum Lions Club. Leland enjoyed playing baseball for many years and playing cards in couples card club. He will be deeply missed by his wife, his family and by all who knew him.


Survivors include his loving wife of 57 years, Darlene; five children, David (Karen) Schaub of Kewaskum, Terry (Linda) Schaub of the town of Wayne, Patricia Hafermann of Kewaskum, Mike (Kathleen) Schaub of Ripon and Susan O’Kroley of Cottage Grove; a brother, Lester (LaVerne) Schaub of New Fane, ten grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, other relatives and friends.


Funeral services for Leland were held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 5, 2008, at St. Lucas Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1417 Parkview Drive in Kewaskum. Rev. Timothy Henning officiated and burial followed in Lutheran Memorial Park in Kewaskum.


Relatives and friends called on Monday from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. at the Miller Funeral Home in Kewaskum and at the church on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services.
