Leo "Sonny" C. Zamzow

September 16, 1931 — December 23, 2023

Leo C. Zamzow, age 92, of Fond du Lac, died peacefully at his home on Saturday, December 23, 2023, with his loving family surrounding him.

He was born on September 16, 1931, in Fond du Lac County to Leo and Lucille (nee Allender) Zamzow. Leo was united in marriage to Anona Moore for 30 years until she passed away in 1980. On February 13, 1982, Leo was united in marriage to Ruth (nee Smith) Irizarry. They have resided in Fond du Lac, Green Lake, and since 2017, Eden, WI. Leo was employed for 43 years with the Galloway West company, and following his retirement in 1993, was owner of Dartford Travel and Cruise in Green Lake. Leo was a member of the Eagles Club, Masonic Lodge #26, Green Lake Rotary Club, and served with the Army National Guard Red Arrow. Leo loved to play baseball, and for 40 years was part of the East Shore League and Fond du Lac Businessman’s League among others. Leo was also a member of the Fond du Lac Horseshoe Club, where he won a state championship title. Leo enjoyed his family, his grandchildren, and was an avid fan of the Green Bay Packers, Milwaukee Brewers, Milwaukee Bucks, and all sports in Wisconsin.

Leo is survived by his wife Ruth, his children, David Zamzow (Lois), Dan Zamzow (Christine), stepchildren, Thomas Irizarry (Theresa), Cathy Irizarry-Barron, Nancy Irizarry-Beachy (Larry), Valerie Santana, Susan Irizarry, grandchildren, Sarah Hansen (Steven), Benjamin Zamzow (Jen), Michael Zamzow (Karissa), Adam Zamzow, Michelle Warner (Nathan), Mason Sommerfeldt, Emily Stotler (Rob), Matthew Irizarry (Manuela), Maria Irizarry, Benjamin Parsons, Nathan Rathcamp, Avalon Lidstrom, twelve great-grandchildren, his sister, Janet Birschbach (John) of Eden, many nieces and nephews, and many dear friends.

Leo was preceded in death by his parents, Leo and Lucille Zamzow; first wife, Anona Zamzow; brother, Brian Zamzow; sisters, Luanna Isken, Rosalee Emmer; stepbrother, Merrill Dohrman; brother-in-law, Tom “Trotter” Smith; and parents-in-law, Sherman and Betty Smith.

VISITATION: The family will greet relatives and friends on Thursday, December 28, 2023, at the Myrhum-Patten Funeral Home, 350 Main St. Lomira, from 11:00 a.m. until 12:45 p.m.

SERVICE: A funeral service in remembrance of Leo will be at the funeral home on Thursday at 1:00 p.m. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Fond du Lac.

The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the staff of Hospice SSM for the special care and compassion they showed to Leo and his family and the Adult Day Services Center, where Leo enjoyed beautiful staff and many happy days.
