Leroy L. Schiefelbein, age 76, of Kewaskum, was called home to be with the Lord, following a year long battle with cancer, on Friday, May 31, 2013, at Froedert Memorial Lutheran Hospital in Milwaukee.
Leroy was born on March 15, 1937, in the town of Plymouth to the late August and Minnie (nee Lueck) Schiefelbein. In 1954, he graduated from Glenbeulah High School and six years later, on April 9, 1960, Leroy was united in marriage to Bonnie Bunyea at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Plymouth.
Just out of high school, Leroy was employed at Tecumseh in New Holstein. He worked there until taking a job at Vereches in Plymouth which later became known as Gilson. From 1961 until 1962, Leroy worked as a Mink Rancher before moving to Milwaukee for a short time to work at a paper factory. In 1964, Leroy moved to Sheboygan where he was employed at Garton Toy. In 1968, Leroy and his family moved to West Bend. While living in West Bend Leroy had a variety of different jobs. He worked for the City of West Bend Sanitation Department, the Gehl Company, and Bud Walter's flooring. In 1972, Leroy and his family made one final move to Kewaskum where they have lived for the past 40 years.
Leroy was an avid early stock car racing fan. He enjoyed listening to country western and Christian music and was a member Kewaskum House of Prayer for many years. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather and will be missed by all who knew him.
Leroy is survived by his loving wife, Bonnie of Kewaskum; his five children, Steven (Deanna) Schiefelbein of Kewaskum, Jerry (Julie) Schiefelbein of Waukesha, Daniel (Wendy) Schiefelbein of Waukesha, Sandra Friberg (Ben) of Waukesha, and Paul (Tammy) Schiefelbein of Milwaukee; grandchildren, Brian Moen, Ally Koepp, Jamie (Tom) Gaeth, Nicole, Cody, and Carlee Schiefelbein, Tiffany Schiefelbein, Misty Brown, Angel Holloway, Emily Heitman, Heather Counts, Jeff Schiefelbein, Josh Pridemore, and Brittany Schiefelbein; many great-grandchildren; a sister, Evelyn Bower of Sheboygan; and many other relatives and friends.
Leroy was preceded in death by his father, August Schiefelbein; his mother, Minnie Longrie; his step-father, Arthur Longrie; two sisters, Margaret Gorzelitz and Vivian Schiefelbein; a brother, Ralph Schiefelbein/Jon Sears; a nephew, Scott Schiefelbein; and a brother-in-law, Bob Bower.
A funeral service in honor of Leroy will be held on Thursday, June 6, 2013 at 7:00 pm at the Myrhum-Patten Funeral Home in West Bend. Pastor Joseph Barth will officiate. Visitation will be on Thursday at the funeral home from 4:00 pm until the time of service. Burial will take place on Friday, June 7th at 2:00 pm in Washington County Memorial Park.
Memorials to the American Cancer Society would be greatly appreciated by the family.
