LeRoy E. Thom, age 91, of West Bend, passed away Friday, September 27, 2013 at Froedtert Health St. Joseph's Hospital.
He was born on July 31, 1922 in Woodland and was raised on a farm just outside of Rubicon. LeRoy attended school until 6th grade after which he was needed for work on the farm. During WW II he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served honorably in the pacific theater. Upon returning from service he became employed at the Washington County Highway Department, and retired as a highway patrol man.
On June 4, 1947 LeRoy was united in marriage to Elma Quaas at St. John's Ev. Lutheran Church in West Bend. Together they made their home in the Town of West Bend, where they hobby farmed, raising horses and cows.
LeRoy was a member of St. John's Ev. Lutheran Church, the Fred A. Schaefer VFW Post # 1393, and was the former weed commissioner for the Town of West Bend. He enjoyed aviation and flying his plane, along with attending many auctions and making new friends. LeRoy was a master at fixing all types of farm machinery which turned into a good side job.
He is survived by his wife, Elma; a daughter, Bonnie Streese of West Bend; three grandchildren, Melissa McKee of Red Wing, MN, Eric (Nadia Margulis) Dvoracek of Arlington Heights, IL, and David (FiancAC.e Hannah Krause) Streese of West Bend; two great-grandsons, Ian and Brennen McKee; a sister, Carol (John) Schwartz of Hartford; four sisters-in-law, Delores Hauser of Ft. Meyers, FL, Myrtle (Dan) Fischer of Kewaskum, Altta (Clayton) Stautz of Kewaskum, and Orlean (Gene) LePien of Hartford; three brothers-in-law, William Burns of Decatur, Georgia, Wilmer (Edna) Quaas of Port Washington, and Donald Quaas of Kewaskum; other relatives and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Irma Thom; son-in-law, Roger Streese; sister, LaVerne Burns; brother, LaMoine Hauser; and sister-in-law, Loudella (don) Edmison.
Funeral services in remembrance of LeRoy will be held Wednesday, October 2nd at 12:00 noon at St. Johns Ev. Lutheran Church. Burial will follow in Washington County Memorial Park. Visitation will be at the church on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Memorials to St. John's Church Foundation or the charity of your choice will be appreciated by the family.
